Ankiboy FAQ
How it works, what’s included and what to expect at launch. Can’t find your answer? Get in touch.
How much does it cost?
Ankiboy costs A$150 plus shipping. Register your interest now, and we’ll share ordering details when it launches. Signing up is free and doesn’t reserve a device.
Can I order one yet? Do you ship overseas?
Orders aren’t open yet. We’re based in Australia and welcome customers everywhere. Register your interest and we’ll confirm delivery options and shipping costs for your country before you pay.
Who is Ankiboy for?
If Anki is already part of your routine and you’d like to review away from your phone or desk, Ankiboy is for you. It’s built for working through your cards with physical buttons, whether you’re studying medicine, languages, professional exams or something else entirely.
What if something goes wrong with my device?
Get in touch through the support page and tell us what’s happening. If you have an order number, include it so we can find your purchase. We’ll help you work out the next step; please contact us before sending a device back.
Is Ankiboy an official Anki product?
No. Ankiboy is an independent project built around AnkiDroid. It isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Anki, AnkiDroid or their developers.
Can I use the decks I already have?
Ankiboy uses AnkiDroid and syncs through your AnkiWeb account, so you can bring your existing decks and review progress with you. If your cards use unusual templates or rely on a particular feature, ask us to check it before buying. Back up your collection before your first sync.
Can I study without Wi-Fi?
Yes. Once your cards and their images or audio are downloaded, you can review offline. Connect to Wi-Fi later to sync your progress or install updates.
How do the buttons work?
Use the physical controls to reveal an answer, then choose Again, Hard, Good or Easy. It’s the same review routine you know from Anki, with buttons under your thumbs.
Can I make and edit cards on Ankiboy?
Ankiboy is built mainly for reviewing. We recommend using your computer for writing and editing lots of cards, then syncing them to the handheld. If you need to do a particular kind of editing on the device, ask us about it first.
Will my desktop add-ons work?
Desktop Anki add-ons don’t run directly in AnkiDroid. Ankiboy includes some features inspired by the ways people customise their reviews, but it won’t reproduce every desktop setup. If there’s an add-on you rely on, tell us what you use it for and we’ll help you check whether Ankiboy suits you.
What about audio cards or typing an answer?
These depend on your cards and how you like to review. If audio or typed answers are essential to your routine, tell us about your deck and any accessories you use so we can check that setup on the device before you buy.
What comes with it?
Ankiboy includes the handheld, a hard-shell carry case, configured study software, a getting-started guide, software updates and direct support. We’ll show the complete contents before orders open.
Can you help me get set up?
Yes. Use the support page if you get stuck with setup, syncing or the device itself. Tell us which step you’re on and what you see on screen. We won’t need your AnkiWeb password or a copy of your private decks.
Will it get software updates?
Yes. Software updates are included. We’ll provide instructions for updating your device over Wi-Fi.
