Why I built Ankiboy.
I’ve used Anki every day for the past five years, through university and my sommelier studies. As life became busier, I found myself falling behind not because I didn’t want to study, but because reviewing on the go never felt as good as sitting down at my PC.
Using my phone was slower than I wanted. Controllers were unreliable, my favourite add-ons weren’t available, and I often found myself wasting my lunch break waiting until I got home just to finish the reviews of the day.
What started as a simple idea bringing my desktop Anki experience with me quickly became something much bigger. I wanted reviewing to feel fast, focused and enjoyable wherever I was. Months of learning Android development and building prototypes eventually became Ankiboy: a dedicated handheld that keeps everything I love about my existing Anki workflow while making it easier to finish my reviews whenever life gives me a free moment.
I built Ankiboy because it was the device I wanted to own, but couldn’t buy.
